What is Industrial Rubber Moulding?

Industrial rubber moulding is a manufacturing process in which uncured rubber is shaped into a specific form using heat and pressure. This process enables the production of custom rubber components with complex designs, precise dimensions, and excellent performance.

In our production, we use vulcanizing presses ranging from small heating plates with a diameter of 300 mm to large presses measuring 1200 mm by 1000 mm. This allows us to produce products ranging in size from a few millimeters up to nearly one meter, as well as molds with multiple cavities for large series production.

Univerzal-Sopot specializes in two key types of rubber moulding processes.

Transfer Moulding

A pre-measured amount of rubber is heated and injected into a closed mold cavity through a system of channels. This method allows for greater precision and is suitable for complex shapes and parts with embedded components. Unlike compression moulding, it requires higher initial costs.

Compression Moulding

Rubber is placed into an open mold cavity and then compressed under the influence of heat and pressure until it takes the desired shape. This method is ideal for simple designs and durable, robust components. It is typically suitable for smaller production runs and offers the additional advantage of lower tooling costs.

Transfer Molding

Transfer molding is one of the processes engineers use to manufacture rubber products.

A pre-measured amount of molding material is loaded and placed into the mold before the process begins. Under the effect of heat, the material is forced by pressure into the mold cavities, where it takes its final shape.

Compression Molding

Compression molding is a type of shaping process that uses both pressure and heat.

Raw material is placed into the heated mold chamber. Plugs are positioned on top of the mold cavity, which not only close the mold but also create the necessary pressure. Under the combined effect of heat and pressure, the material begins to harden (vulcanize) inside the mold, forming the final product or component.
